Community Telco™ Australia is a joint venture between Bendigo Bank and AAPT. It replicates the highly successful Bendigo Bank Community Bank™ model into the telecommunications sector. At the time of the review, 7 franchisees had been established 7 major regional areas. Each of these franchisees is governed by a local board.

 

Challenge

Restructuring the distribution methodology to obtain benefits of scale whilst ensuring that the intent of community telco model remained unchanged.

 

Approach

Balcombe Consulting worked with the board and senior executives to realign and reconfirm the strategic direction of the company for board approval and then worked with the chief executive and management team to develop, review and implement the revised business model plan and implementation plan. The objective was to ensure that the cost structures and value delivery to customers and shareholders was enhanced. At all times the Community Bank™ principles of sustainable ownership and value to local communities was re-inforced and maintained. Balcombe Consulting provided strategic insight and advice, business plan review and workshop development and facilitation.

 

Outcome

The revised strategy and plan received board and franchisees approval. The plan was implemented over the course of three years. Community Telco™ Australia revenue grew in excess c: 20% per annum, achieved increased reseller gross margins in a cluttered competitive telecommunications market and customer satisfaction continued to lead the way in the telecommunication sector.
